On June 22, 2022, NextEra Energy Resources LLC and the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) broke ground on a new approximately 110 megawatt wind energy center in Rock County, MN. The Walleye Wind Energy Center will feature 40 wind turbines.

The project developer (a subsidiary of NextEra) will build, own, and operate the new wind energy center.  “This wind energy project will generate low-cost, homegrown energy and provide millions of dollars in additional tax revenue to Rock County over the life of the project,” said Kevin Gildea, vice president of development at NextEra Energy Resources. “We are pleased to work with MMPA to bring online Minnesota’s newest wind energy center.”

MMPA has a long-term power purchase agreement for all energy generated by the project. “MMPA is pleased to work with NextEra Energy Resources on the Walleye Wind Energy Center,” said David Niles, Senior Vice President of Avant Energy, Inc., MMPA’s management partner. “This project is an important part of MMPA’s renewable program and demonstrates MMPA’s ongoing commitment to sustainable energy.”

Walleye Wind Energy Center is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2022.
