Our Management

Derick Dahlen has served as the Agency’s executive manager since its founding in 1992, providing strategic guidance and long-term planning services to the Agency’s Board. Mr. Dahlen has over thirty-five years of experience in the electric industry and has provided energy supply management services to many public power utilities and universities.

Mr. Dahlen holds an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia and did his undergraduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Oncu Er is responsible for the Agency’s long-term strategic planning as well as its energy market operations. Mr. Er has over twenty-one years of energy experience, including many years as the Agency’s senior power trader. Mr. Er serves as the President of Minnesota Renewable Energy, LLC and Oak Glen Wind Farm, LLC. Prior to his work with the Agency, Mr. Er held positions at Citibank, Paine Webber, Morgan Stanley, and Robert Baird.

Mr. Er has received his B.A. in Economics magna cum laude from Macalester College and an M.B.A. from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He is also a Harvard Business School alumnus and has completed the Strategic Decision Making and Risk Management Program at Stanford University.

David Niles directs the finance and accounting functions of the Agency. Mr. Niles has more than seventeen years of experience in the electric industry, providing service to the Agency, municipal utilities and colleges and universities.

Mr. Niles has an M.B.A. from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota where he was a designated Carlson Scholar. He holds a B.A. in Economics magna cum laude from Carleton College and is a licensed CPA in the state of Minnesota.
