Walleye Wind Energy Center Achieves Commercial Operation
February 7, 2023
In late December, the Walleye Wind Energy Center achieved commercial operation. The Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) has a long-term contract to purchase all of the renewable, carbon-free energy from the approximately 110 MW wind energy center located in Rock County in southwestern Minnesota. Walleye Wind is a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, a clean energy leader and one of the largest wholesale generators of electric power in the U.S.
“We are excited about this newest addition to MMPA’s portfolio of renewable and carbon-free energy resources,” said Oncu Er, Chief Operating Officer of Avant Energy, Inc., MMPA’s management partner. “The Walleye Wind Energy Center is expected to generate renewable energy equal to more than 20% of MMPA’s annual energy needs. This project demonstrates MMPA’s continued commitment to sustainable energy. We are pleased that Walleye will be part of MMPA’s resource portfolio for years to come.”
