Le Sueur Energy Park is an important component of
MMPA’s commitment towards local, sustainable energy production. Le Sueur Energy Park will generate
power from food processing wastes creating four
products: electricity, pipeline quality gas, transportation
fuel, and solid fuel pellets.
Electricity:
Biogas will be used to produce electricity, which will be delivered directly to the City of Le Sueur.
Pipeline Quality Gas:
Biogas will be compressed and delivered into the local gas distribution system.
Transportation Fuel:
Biogas will be compressed and used to power our feedstock transportation vehicles.
Solid Fuel Pellets:
Undigested biomass will be dried to create solid fuel, which will be burned off site in coal fired boilers.
Local and Sustainable Electricity
MMPA expects the project will be constructed during 2010, creating over a hundred jobs during construction and approximately 10 permanent jobs at the facility. The electricity from the Le Sueur facility will be used by MMPA and the city utility to help meet the state-mandated requirement of 25 percent of electricity from renewable sources by the year 2025.
On January 12, 2010 MMPA representatives hosted an open house at the Caribou Gun Club in Le Sueur. The purpose of the event was to provide local area citizens information about the Le Sueur facility.
