Arlington is a small, growing city located in a rural setting 55 miles southwest of Minneapolis. Major businesses include Seneca Foods, Sibley Medical Center, the Good Samaritan Village nursing home and Scott Equipment, a manufacturer of large industrial equipment. Arlington has been involved in the delivery of electricity since the early 1900s when the city generated electricity in its old city hall. In 1992, Arlington and seven other cities joined together to form MMPA.

Clean Energy Choice

Customers deserve choice in their energy supply.  We are excited to offer the Clean Energy Choice.  Arlington’s supplier, MMPA, will provide 1 kWh from its Oak Glen Wind Farm, Hometown BioEnergy, or Hometown Wind to the power grid for each kWh you purchase.  At this time, our residential customers can purchase renewable, sustainable energy for a premium of just $0.0175 per kWh for your actual household usage.  If you use 750 kWh/month, that’s an additional $13 per month on your utility bill.  Participation in this program is voluntary and on a month-to-month basis.  There are no contracts to sign, and no long-term commitment.  Please call Arlington’s Billing Department at 507-964-2378 for more information.

The City of Arlington Utility Billing Department offers rebates to residential customers who install qualifying ENERGY STAR® appliances including quality installed central air-conditioners and air-source heat pumps, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, CFL bulbs, and LED bulbs and fixtures. Rebates are also available when you recycle your refrigerator or freezer, tune-up your central air conditioner, or get a home energy audit.   See rebate forms for details.  Applications are available online or may be picked up at the City Office.

If you qualify for Energy Assistance in MN, you are eligible for a free energy audit through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).  Contact Minnesota Valley Action Council at (800) 767-7139 to see if you qualify. Information about WAP can be found here.

Green Power Choice

Green Power Choice is a voluntary program offered to MMPA customers. The program currently offers Hydropower and Wind Power purchased from the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency.

Why Purchase Green Power?

By purchasing green power you support increased reliance on sustainable energy sources, thereby reducing the burning of fossil fuels. Unlike fossil fuels, power generated from sustainable energy sources does not produce harmful emissions. Sustainable energy sources like water and wind are replaced naturally in the environment.

How Does it Work?

Hydropower and wind power are offered in blocks of 100 kilowatt hours for $1.75 per block. You can choose to purchase any combination of wind or hydro blocks. Signing up is easy! Simply fill out the participation form included in your monthly bill.
