MMPA’s We Save program helps residential customers save energy, money and valuable natural resources. From home energy audits to cash back rebates for the purchase of qualifying appliances and lighting fixtures, there are many ways you can save.
Home Energy Audits
Many MMPA communities offer a home energy audit—an energy "check up" for your house—to their customers at a substantial discount. We send a trained professional to closely analyze all aspects of your home's energy use. Following the audit, you receive a detailed report that shows the steps you can take to improve your home's energy efficiency.
In addition, if you qualify for Energy Assistance in MN, you are eligible for a free energy audit through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). Information about WAP can be found here.
Why Should I Participate?
A home energy audit helps you identify and prioritize improvements you can make to your home that will reduce your energy costs while improving indoor comfort levels. Our auditors are not salesmen looking to sell windows or insulation. They will provide suggestions for ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency and you can decide what measures best fit your budget and priorities. You will find that many of the recommended improvements can be done at little or no cost. If you plan on investing in a home improvement project, a home energy audit can help show you how to get a better return on your investment. Don’t start a project without first consulting with an energy auditor! Many MMPA communities offer rebates to customers who purchase qualifying ENERGY STAR® products, which use less energy, save money and help protect the environment. By purchasing ENERGY STAR products, families can save approximately one third on their electric bills. Many different types and brands of products earn the ENERGY STAR rating—but to do so they must first meet strict efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy. Products include appliances, light bulbs and fixtures, home electronics and home office equipment. Remember, all of your favorite brands sell ENERGY STAR rated models! Examples of ENERGY STAR rebates offered by MMPA utilities are:
Why Should I Participate?
- Q.I. Central Air Conditioners & Air Source Heat Pumps
- Clothes Washers
- Refrigerator Recycling Bonus
- Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulbs
- Central AC Tune-Up
Why spend more money than you need to? While ENERGY STAR products usually cost more up front, they’ll pay you back in monthly electric bill savings for years after your purchase! Our ENERGY STAR rebate programs are designed to make the small incremental investment even more attractive. By purchasing ENERGY STAR, you reduce the need for new power plants, reduce overall consumption of fossil fuels and lower your monthly utility bill. Remember, every kilowatt-hour saved through conservation is a kilowatt-hour that you do not have to buy and that never has to be produced! That’s a benefit to everyone.
